Magna is a screen magnifier for macOS. This policy explains what Magna does with information on your Mac.
In short
- Magna has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting.
- What Magna shows on screen stays on your Mac. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
- The only time Magna connects to the internet is to check for and download its own updates from apps.kod.systems.
Your screen
Magna needs macOS's Screen Recording permission to magnify your screen. It uses this only to draw the enlarged view live in its window. Screen images are processed in memory and thrown away immediately. They are never saved to disk, copied to the clipboard, or sent over the network.
Accessibility permission
If you dock a magnifier to the top or bottom of the screen, Magna asks for Accessibility permission so it can move other windows out of the way. For this it looks only at which app owns each window and where that window is and how big it is, and it changes only the window's position. It does not read what is inside other windows. If you never use docking, Magna does not ask for this permission.
Settings stored on your Mac
Magna remembers your preferences on your Mac, in its standard macOS preferences file: zoom level, magnification mode, the screen region you selected, window position and size, transparency, and the docking and "Stay in Current Space" options. These never leave your Mac.
Update checks
Shortly after it starts, every few hours while it is running, and whenever you choose Check for Updates…, Magna asks apps.kod.systems whether a newer version exists. Each check sends:
- the app's identifier (
systems.kod.magna) - the version and build number you have installed
- the platform (macOS) and update channel (Stable)
- your Mac's processor type (Apple silicon or Intel), so it is offered the right version
As with any internet request, the server also receives your IP address and a standard header naming the app and your macOS version. Magna sends nothing else: no name, email address, device identifier, or information about how you use the app.
If you choose to install an update, Magna downloads it from apps.kod.systems and checks that it is complete and signed by Magna's developer before installing it.
Sharing
Magna contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it does not sell or share information about you.
